Ibanez TS808 Overdrive Pedal – Nevada Music UK

March 232010

http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Effects-Pedals-and-Processors/Guitar-Effects/Single-Pedal-Effects/sc1595/p5622.aspx

The 9 Series of pedals are Ibanezs return to their roots, all the pedals have been designed to re-create the vintage sounds and tones of a by-gone era. Ibanez first released these pedals over 20 years ago and they have been a favourite with many musicians since, Ibanez wanted to give the modern generation of musicians the opportunity to use these great pedals, so they have been re-released for yet another generation to enjoy.

Distortion Sound Pedal

The tube screamer pedals are a modern classic; you can get that vintage sound of a valve amp from a compact pedal. The Tube screamer pedals work really well though a clean channel of an amp, but to get the really magic to happen, you need to add the tube screamer pedals to amps distortion channel, it then adds more sustain and valve sound even to a solid state amp.

Rhythm & Blues Effects

The TS808 really is the most vintage pedal of the series; it contains the original JRC4558 chip, which was used in the first tube screamers. It gives a brilliant bluesy and light rock tone on its own and works amazingly well when added to the dirty channel of any amp – this is the holy grail of tube screamers.

Having some fun with my JSX in the rehearsal

February 152010

For better quality, use this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiCW006_b1M&fmt=18

Hello dear friends!
Today I took my car and set out for my bands’ new rehearsal. I brought my Ibanez JS1200CA with me and a CD with a couple of backing tracks on to have some fun with!

At first, I was going to make like six or seven new videos, but I decided to cut the material, so I ended up with a ten minute video of a handful clips.
I took a 35 minute video non-stop and the result you can see here.

The sound might distort a little bit, but that’s only because the high volume, almost eleven I think *lol* Anyway, my video camera isn’t too fond of high volumes, stupid thing! Haha!

The guitar is an Ibanez JS1200CA with a DiMarzio Breed in the bridge (thanks Magnus Olsson). The amp is a Peavey JSX. For effects I use an Alesis Midiverb 4 in the fx loop, no distortion/overdrive pedals.

You can see a brown ugly combo to the right and that’s an Acoustic Control Corporation model 164 amp which I feed with the right channel signal out from the Alesis. So it’s all the sound of the JSX, but in stereo, don’t think that gets through in the video though…

As you all might know by now, I’m not focused on technique, so this video is more about tone, and the JSX has got plenty of that, trust me!!

Anyway, hope you’ll enjoy it!
Take care

Ibanez Tube King Distortion Pedal

February 92010

http://www.ProGuitarShop.com – The Ibanez TK999HT Tube King Distortion Pedal – A regal name in distortion pedals, the Tube King returns to the Ibanez lineup. While the name and purpose of the Ibanez distortion pedal is the same as the original ’90s models, this version of Tube King, the TK999HT, differs from its two predecessors in that it features internal high voltage DC circuitry instead of previous “starved plate” low voltage circuitry. Ibanez says that makes a significant difference.

With the TK999HT the 12AX7 gets normal DC high voltage, allowing total linear operation of the tube. It works just like a tube preamp because it effectively is one! The result is that the TK999HT distortion pedal makes any solid-state amp sound like a tube amp. The distortion is massive yet tight.

Ibanez TK999HT Tube King Distortion Pedal Features:

* Genuine High Voltage Tube Distortion Pedal
* 12AX7 Tube
* 3-Band Active EQ plus Presence Switch for Exacting Tone Control
* VOID Control for Sharp Rhythmic Dynamics
* Rigid Zinc Die-cast Case
* 12-Volt AC Adaptor Included
* Controls:
* Drive
* Level
* Three Bands of Active EQ (LO/MID/HI)
* Presence Switch
* VOID (adjustable noise gate – can also used for “machine gun” riff effects favored by metal players.)

Carvin CS6 California Single + Ibanez Tube King (TK999HT) + Ibanez TBX150R sound demo

November 212009

Showing the versatility and tone of my new axe, Carvin CS6. I’m using the guitar’s volume control to go from clean to distortion. It has coil taps so you can get some strat-ish sound out of it too.

The setting on the Tubeking is Bass +3; Mid +5; High -2 (Tubeking has active eq); Gain 5; Level 6.5; and Noise gate off. Also, I replaced the stock tube with Tungsol 12ax7 but the stock tube sounded just fine.

The setting on the TBX is Bass 1; Mid 2; and High 0 and this too has an active eq. The gain nob is at 3 and level was around 6 on the clean channel without the over drive switch on.

I also used the zoom g2. 1u pedal but only to add slight delay.

Trying to get Joe Satriani’s Sound! (”Ten Words” cover with improvisation)

November 122009

HQ Stereo version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzkKrsaVcnA&fmt=18

Well, I decided to use Guitar Rig 3 to model another useful tone trying to get something similar to Joe Satriani’s one. To make it, I have used the theme “Ten Words” because I like it a lot and “Crowd Chant” because you can hear the guitar tone very clear there.

So, here you have a “Ten Words” cover. It’s a relative easy one from Joe, but a beautiful one also.

Please, hear it in stereo using the link above because in mono is just a piece of junk and the tone doesn’t shine as in stereo.

In the Guitar Rig 3 I find that the “Plexi” amp (Vintage Marshall emulation) is the best sound possible with the rest of things used, but the “Instant Gratifier” (kind of Mesa Boogie) gives a closer sound to Satch’s one. I will try to upload a video explaining how I use Guitar Rig 3 with Cubase things to model my guitar tones, but for now here you are the setup (in order):

- Distortion: Volume(5), Tone(2.5), Distortion(10).

- Instant Gratifier Head: Mode buttons(Modern), Master(5), Gain(6), Bass(1.31), Mid(5), Treble(8.29), Presence(8.29).

- Chorus+Flanger: Speed(0.20Hz), Intensity(1), Width(0), Mode(Chorus).

- Cabinets & mics: Gratifier 4×12, Mic Pos “Off Axis”, Mic “Dynamic 57″ and all the knobs to the right at the Zero/Center position.

- Quad Delay: Dry/Wet(50%/50%), Time(449 ms), Feedback (15), Rate and Depth(off), Diffusion(10 “total panned”).

With this setup I’ve got a pretty solid base to play things in the “Super Colossal” album. What I do is to apply an EQ to this base to fit it in the mix or to emulate the original sound from Satch in the original themes. In this case, “Ten Words”, I find that it sounds pretty good and relatively close to the original, despite my guitar is only a JS-100. Try it and get fun!!!

I hope you like it! Greetings.

Trying to get Steve Vai’s Sound!!!

October 252009

HQ Stereo version: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=akabLgfRNZA&fmt=18

Well… I’ve got the incredible Ibanez JEM 7V and I wanted to get a rig setup so close as possible to Vai’s sound and to check how it’s heared in youtube. Just a test video, I think I will post a “The Crying Machine” cover shortly after some little tweeks…

Using the JEM and Guitar Rig 3 to model the sound in Cubase SX, a good EQ for the guitar and a stereo expander and a limiter for the final mix. Let’s see if I can get it…

In Guitar Rig 3, using (in this order) the DISTORTION (Boss DS-1), the CHORUS+FLANGER (as a very little of chorus), the Ultrasonic amp (kind of Bogner) and the QUAD DELAY (instead of any kind of reverb) in order to get a cleaner end in the solos with a little of deepness also… Settings:

* Distortion: Vol(5), Tone(1.73), Distortion(2.73).

* Chorus/Flanger: Speed(1Hz), Intensity(3), Width(1.34).

* Ultrasonic: Master(5), Vol(5), Gain(10), Bass(6.14), Middle (4.10), Treble (7.01), Presence(7.51).

* Cabinet: Ultrasonic 4×12, Mic 100% A, Air(1.58).

* Quad Delay: Wet(30.2%, but it will depend on the mix), Time(449ms), Feedback(14.6%), Rate and Depth out (0), Diffusion(10, max stereo).

The tricky thing is that I’m trying to apply an EQ to this overall sound, still working on it:)

You can see that it’s not any kind of playback because of the mistakes I made… The sound of the guitar is 100% real of what I get with the stuff I’ve got. Greetings!

P.D.: after seeing the video in youtube, It’s pretty clear that they use a heavy sound limiter, resulting in loss of deepness of the track and some artifacts like sound level breaks. I’ll try to post the next video with a little less of output and see what happens then, because It looses a lot of overall quality… :( Moreover it sounds in mono by default, so…
