Do you like to read a real example how a bible fundie distort a bible story to make it sounds good?

In a question "Need help understanding the Old Testament" asked by wall. ‘Somebody’ justified that the reason why Moses killed all the men, women and children of Heshbon is because when Moses tries to seek peace and buy food and drinks, the King of Heshbon send his army to kill all Israelites.

But the story goes like this:
Moses and his people passed thru some territories like Edom and Moabs, where god told them not to attack (Deut 2:1-23).
As they are about to reached Heshbon, god instructed them to attack and occupy their lands. (Deut 2:24)
Moses indeed tried to offer peace and buy food and drink and said will only pass thru (Deut 2:26-29), This was obviously a trick since in the preceeding verse they were already instructed to attack Heshbon, the king might have suspected it and got ready with his army.
The King of Heshbon won’t let Moses people pass thru their lands. and it is because god made him stubborn so Moses will have a reason to attack (Deut.2:30).
michelle chang, yes they are not to bother the descendants of Esau (Deut 2:4) but only attack the Sihon and occupy his land (Deut 2:24), the reason I wrote King of Heshbon is because not everybody know the name Sihon.
so it goes "At the same time we captured and destroyed every town, and put everyone to death, men, women and children, we left no survivors." (Deut. 2:34)
Maranath, Moses offer of peace is obviously a trick since in the preceeding verse 24, god already instructed them to attack Sihon and take his lands. and why won’t Sihon let them pass? it’s in verse 30 "But Sihon King of Heshbon would not let them pass for the lord thy god hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand as appeared this day" and Yes the next massacre comes next in Deut. chapter 3 against King Og and its just as bad. You justify that killing of all unbelievers makes you sound like a fundamentalist.
in my original question I am trying to highlight the incident of whole chapter 2 as short as I can, but apologists might not understand so I have to write down more verses.

it’s how they use the bible to win arguements, the fact is that the bible is a record of death and destruction that says its all about the love.

  1. All of this is really a matter of perspective.

god has never told someone to kill someone
    he says do not kill
he is not a hypocrite nor is he confusing
if someone says god did something that he is not of then they are lying

  4. Yeah, don’t ya just hate it when ppl come on here with their stuff and they haven’t even read the Bible verses they are talking about? Geeez. And to the guy who says that God would never kill anyone, uh, that would be wrong. NO, God is NOT evil. He is Omnipotent and will do as He pleases with His own. He has always had his reasons for doing everything that He has ever done and will continue to do so. We are not to question God, we are to answer to Him. What may seem "evil" to you is not the wisdom of God. Read your Bible.

    Are you insane?
It says at Deut. 2 that the Israelites are not to bother the descendants of Esau, then it says for the Israelites to attack the King of Heshbon named ‘Sihon’.

  6. ABRAHAM YEAR 2083, MOSES YEAR 2513 TO 2553 AT PROMISED LAND

    Moses did all he was supposed to do, God knew the lawless trespassing land pirates [ as family ], do not care and are not friends, Abraham was rich man, Gen.14:1-18; surrounded by these that caused God to give him and his family this as the Promised Land, these people are the trespassers, if they did decent to Moses, he would do decent to them. If they did decent to Joshua or to Jephthah who pleeded with them near 18 years. Acts 13:17-23;
They were to wipe out seven nations of lawless trespassing land pirates.

Deut.2:26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 2:27 Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. 2:28 Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet; 2:29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us. 2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. 2:31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

We have to face it, there was no law and order in the earth, until God had Moses to give it to Abraham’s family so they could try to do as we do today, have law keepers and law enforcers and the law breakers think the law enforcers are the bad guys.

David year 2989 to 3029 brings order enough for solomon to build a temple.

  8. IN the first verses, God is talking Israelites not to attack Edomites as they are the descendants of Esau.
Then he is again not to attack Mobites and Ammonites as they are the descendants of Noah.
But in verse 24 he says to attack the Ammorites as they are worshipping false idols. Their king is Sihon. But Moses is politely asking them to pass through their land as they were wicked nation they didn’t allow them to do.
Thus Israel attacked Sihon and Og…in the coming verses.
You got confused with all these. Nothing contradiction or story making.
