I have new SPR-17S & they are making a distortion like sound when a ‘Bassy’ song is played. The splits have been tested by a alpine dealer & work fine, the splits are running though the internal head unit (CDA-9887). I have changed the crossovers L to R & R to L & still that distortion sound. What could be doing this ?
The distortion is most likely due to your high-pass filter not being set properly. Component speakers or "splits" are designed to play mid-bass to treble. (80Hz – 20,000Hz), a high-pass filter or "HPF" will filter out the sub-bass frequencies that are distorting your speakers.
Your head-unit has the capacity to do this so just follow the instructions in your manual that came with the head-unit under: "Adjusting and Storing the Crossover Settings". It should be on Page 16. If you do not have the manual click on this link to get the .pdf:

I recommend setting it at around 80Hz
If this does not work another problem could be that you are under-powering your speakers. Your head-unit has a internal amplifier rated at 50W peak power per channel (which doesn’t really mean anything) as it will more than likely only be <20WRMS. Your speakers however are rated at 110WRMS. Under-powering a speaker it a lot worse than over-powering it so i would start looking at some external amplification for these.
Look at a 4 channel amplifier rated at around 100WRMS per channel, this should be adequate to power you speakers and, when you feel the need for more bass, also gives you the option of upgrading with a sub by bridging the rear channels.
Hope this helps,
Ben

VOX is pleased to introduce the first pedal in an ongoing collaboration with guitar icon Joe Satriani.
Drawing on Joe Satriani’s knowledge accumulated from decades of groundbreaking performances, both live and in the studio, VOX unveils a breakthrough in guitar tone — The Satchurator™ distortion pedal. Designed to Satriani’s exact specifications.
The Satchurator produces Satriani’s signature tone and adds new features and improvements never before combined in a distortion pedal.
After almost a year of painstaking experimentation and road testing, Satriani and the VOX R&D team discovered the secrets to capturing the ultimate distortion tone in a modern-day pedal. The Satchurator is capable of very high gain levels, but operates more quietly and musically than other modern distortion pedals. It also preserves the tone and pick-attack of the guitarist plugging into it, regardless of style, from subtly distorted blues tones through classic rock and shred. The result is a professional-quality pedal that recaptures sought-after vintage and modern sounds in a powerful, versatile and extremely musical pedal design.
“The Satchurator is the most musical, most dynamic, multi-function distortion pedal I’ve ever played through,” says Satriani. “This little red box is a monster tone generator. Following my specifications without compromise, and adding design innovations I never thought possible, the VOX team has delivered exactly what I need for the stage as well as the studio: a distortion pedal that responds to my touch, and produces a big, natural, harmonically rich tone compatible with any guitar/pedal/amp configuration.”

GGG offers four variations of its distortion kit: DOD ™ 250 replica; a replica 1977 version of the 250; MXR ™ Distortion Plus ™ replica, and a replica of the Ross ™ Distortion.
Though each pedal has its own sound, the builds are very similar aside from part values. The Ross ™, for example, utilizes germanium diodes to give it a sound of its own. There are also many options to further modify the pedals by adding additional diodes for more overdrive/distortion, etc.
Upon purchasing a Distortion kit from GGG, all the parts are included to enable the build of any of these pedals. There are also plenty of extra diodes for adding more overdrive/distortion. The beauty of this kit, too, is you can experiment with various values from each design to create a pedal all your own.

I played my 1983 Les Paul Deluxe through a Carvin V-50 head (circa 96) and a Carvin Vintage 4×10 cab w/ original speakers (no longer made). I played solely on the clean channel set as: Treb- 6.75; Mid- 6.75; Bass- 9; Vol- 1.
If you hear some noisy rumbling in the vid, its due to some kind of internal compressor/limiter on the camera. It doesnt do well transitioning from louder to quieter sounds.

By distortion i mean it sounds like an old tape on playback that’s stretched so music for a second sounds like it’s gone out of tune.
4GB SanDisk SDHC card.
You may be getting sound distortion when the video is being moved from the buffer to the memory card. You might be able to help it by buying a faster card.

The 9 Series of pedals are Ibanezs return to their roots, all the pedals have been designed to re-create the vintage sounds and tones of a by-gone era. Ibanez first released these pedals over 20 years ago and they have been a favourite with many musicians since, Ibanez wanted to give the modern generation of musicians the opportunity to use these great pedals, so they have been re-released for yet another generation to enjoy.
Distortion Sound Pedal
The tube screamer pedals are a modern classic; you can get that vintage sound of a valve amp from a compact pedal. The Tube screamer pedals work really well though a clean channel of an amp, but to get the really magic to happen, you need to add the tube screamer pedals to amps distortion channel, it then adds more sustain and valve sound even to a solid state amp.
Rhythm & Blues Effects
The TS808 really is the most vintage pedal of the series; it contains the original JRC4558 chip, which was used in the first tube screamers. It gives a brilliant bluesy and light rock tone on its own and works amazingly well when added to the dirty channel of any amp – this is the holy grail of tube screamers.
