Guiding Light Closing Credits (1987, composite)

Guiding Light closing credits from 1987, sorry for the so-so quality, and the distorted sound because recorded it from a videotape in 1987 on W.C.A.U-TV 10 Philadelphia.

Acoustix, Tonight Tonight (better audio)

October 312009

Finally, I have the video to go with the audio. This is my favorite piece from the Acoustix’ CD “The New Science Of Sound”. It is also an example of volume control. They push to the limits of their vocal range and volume without distortion or poor intonation. Many groups are pushing their voices to distortion, this group approaches maximum volume without over-singing.

Semi acoustic with electric guitar amp;electric sound?

October 312009

Alright. Ive heard some people say that if you plug a semi(electric) acoustic guitar into an electric guitar amp, and use a distortion effect or what not, the acoustic will sound close to an electric, and other people have said the opposite.
So…Would it be like the ‘best of both worlds’ if I got a semi acoustic? :P
THanks in advance guys

Hi Blah

If you use the acoustic electric on an amp, it will sound acoustic and not like a true electric guitar. If you put electric guitar strings on an acoustic, then yes but you would lose the beauty of the acoustic sound.
If you use a distortion unit. Yes, the sould is close to an electric. I totally agree but, not if you are playing clean.

Problem with guitar amplifier?

October 312009

I’ve got a problem with my Line 6 Spider Jam amplifier, at least I think it’s a problem, I haven’t been playing guitar for too long so it might be a stupid question.

Basically, when I strum one string on its own with distortion on it sounds nice and distorted but when I strum a string and let it ring out while I strum another string it sounds all fuzzy and digital, is it supposed to do this?

Heres a recorded clip of what I’m talking about:http://www.soundupload.com/audio/bdt4d48v8jbnurg2

In that clip I’m strumming the A string, muting it, then strumming the E on its own, then in the second bit I’m strumming the A and letting it ring while I strum the E.
Thanks a lot guys my amp exploded because I didn’t get enough help

Hi Mongoose

If you have the distortion effect on, it will sound like white noise. But if you are not using the distortion, it should sound clean.

Just remember that the amp has a Master volume and a gain. When the master volume is at 8, the gain should be at 3 or 4 and should be super clean.
If oyu put the gain at 8 and the master volume at 3 or 4, then you get a dirty sound and not clean.

Why do many Asian TV channels and films put the sound levels up so high the sound is distorted?

October 312009

When I go channel hopping on my satellite TV system and come across Indian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, etc. channels I notice that a lot of them seem to set the volume level so high there’s actual sound distortion. They do the same with Asian films – many bollywood films suffer from this annoyingly high volume sound distortion, particularly noticeable when music is playing. Why do they set the volume too high?

because their language is so damn hard to understand that even the authentic people need the volume high

What is the concept of physics behind electric guitar effects?

October 312009

Guitar effects are the objects you see on musical instruments shop.. this effects change the sound produced by the guitar..overdrive, distortion, and delay are examples.

I need physics-related concepts..thank you very much :D
uhh..i need specific fields in physics..and im not talking about the guitar..im talking about the effects..and i thinks it is metal and electronics is connected to it

The type, density, amount of pieces, grain of the wood species affects the way everything attached to it vibrates, just as adhesives used, finish applied and hardware do. Wood, then, along with all of the other factors, influence vibration of strings, nuts, bridges, pickups, etc. Since everything is attached, directly or indirectly, to the wood, it affects vibration of every single component.

Vibration= disturbance of electrical field. Disturbance of electrical field= sound. Quality and color of sound= tone.
