September 302009
guys im newbie to electric guitar world…well i was told i need to get a distortion effect (thing) they offered a sound processor (with multi effect) and a distortion pedal…i have a limited budget and im learning…
now…does the sound processor produces same effect for distortion or reverb or (i forgot the name guess its overdrive)
now the pedal is BOSS (http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetail…
and the sound processor can be one the followings:
http://www.digitech.com/products/RP350/i…
http://www.digitech.com/products/rp50.ht…
the thing is does the sound from the sound processor comes out as if its artificial unlike the real distortion pedal, if so…do i have to buy a pedal for each effect…
guys im confused and i need your help with that
Sound Processors or multi-effects pedal do the same thing as a single effect pedal.
But keep in mind, that single effect pedals are usually better for a single effect. Reason being is quality and the amount of tweaking you can do for that one effect. A good example is look at the Boss DD-20. That is a pedal just for Delay and it has 6 knobs to tweak it. It cost $220 for just the delay effect and it comes with looping.
So if you look at a processor that has 50 effects and cost $200. Then you are looking at roughly $4 per effect, so the quality is going to be low, and you’ll have 2-3 basic knobs to tweak the effect with.
Also distortion is hardly ever good on a sound processor or multi effect. Reverb is really basic and will sound find with any multi or sound processor. Flanger, Chorus, and Delay are usually pretty solid on mutli effects processors too.
But Distortion, get a single pedal for sure. The RP350 or 50 won’t do the distortion or overdrive (same as distortion) any justice.
